One of the reasons we don’t grow, is because the nature of time is that it goes one way.
Now, it is true that time goes one way, but we, humans, are equipped with a brain that is able to model, replay, and practice.
I bet you haven’t taken advantage of that.
One huge insight I had when I realized that the version of Freecell I have on my newer computers is the type where you can undo many steps… or even go back to the beginning and do it again.
It did something to me. It changed my perception of life being irreversible. That lost is lost forever. That wh
Life is a lot like a Freecell game. ((In an upcoming article I’ll share what it cost me to learn through life, instead of simulation. Quite an educational story… sad though… :-())
You make lots of decisions… which card to move, which card to leave alone.
In a very short time when you find yourself with no cards to move… it is mighty hard to retrace your steps. And even if you could, undoing the steps
I just discovered that the version of the Freecell game is “forgiving”, i.e. you can go back more than one step… “start over again” without a penalty point.
This makes the game an even better modeling tool than it used to be.
I always suspected that the first step really decides the rest of the journey… but being a Quickstart… jumping-without-thinking-type-of-person, this would not have
In the game of life, when you are losing, or not winning, the two things that can be missing are moves and DNA capacities.
The game goes the way the game goes, but you can play well and with a full deck, or not. Life deals a hand that you can play to win, and you can play to lose…
Each game in life has moves. Winning moves, and losing moves. You can have all the winning moves if you can’t see the consequences of your actions, you won’t win. And even if you see the consequences of your actions (capacity), if you don’t have moves, you still lose.
The question in your life is: who possesses who? Who possesses what?
But the answer to that question, albeit it is fashionable to think that the guy/gal with the most toys wins, will surprise you: the person who possesses himself wins, every step of the way.
I pretty much don’t know anyone with any level of self-possession: it can be measured.
People are like leaves blowing in the wind, flotsam on the ocean… out of control, hoping for a favorable wind… lacking what can only developed by rigorous practice.
Rigorous? Practice? Please stop laughing… you are out of control!
This may just be a legend… Yet, legends can teach…
Marco Polo was an Italian man who arrived into the Great Khan’s court. The Great Khan asked him and his two companions about the desert they had to cross to get to his court.
The two older men had little to say. Marco Polo, on the other hand, had a lot to say.
The two older men were banished, Marco Polo was given the role of advisor.
Why?
Because Marco Polo didn’t live his live with his consciousness buried in his mind.
WTF, right? What does that mean?
Mind and consciousness are not the same, don’t even live in the same
As I have said before: the ONLY way to be happy is to accept what is, exactly. Accept how it is. And also accept how it isn’t.
Now, this second statement, accept reality how it isn’t is the topic of this article, the essence of this spiritual practice. Accept that it is what it is, not something else, that may look better, faster, easier…
One of the symptoms of not accepting reality the way it isn’t, is overwhelm… another one is misery… Want to know more?
Now, before I continue, I want to explain something:
I have been pondering a student’s email all morning. ((I woke up today with a real distinction between ‘me’ and ‘my machine’. It is so coo! I can actually feel the two different states of being. Thanks Sophie!
This is so cool I just had to share it with you. It gives me a real sense of how I can relate to my machine differently. Here’s hoping I can stay in this state of awareness as the day progresses. For the rest of my life is preferable!! For the rest of my life is my goal. 🙂
Wow, my poor little machine! Doing so much of my work. Let’s see how I do in directing her instead of her trying to do something she is not capable of doing effectively, and something she is not equipped to do. )) And when I ponder, I do it while I do other things.
What I do most frequently is play Freecell, a card game, a solitaire. I can have my bilocation mos
