Your soul correction in your favorite movies, the ones that come up in your memory again and again

One of my favorite movies is a Coen brothers movie, True Grit

It comes up for me 4-5 times a year, to ponder who had the true grit… the little girl or the big drunkard marshal? ((One of the main reason I love the Coen brothers in this movie is because they give opportunities to famous actors who never had a chance to prove they can act, an opportunity to act. Like Matt Damon. OMG…

It is the week of Thanksgiving… Why can’t you feel gratitude? Why your thanksgiving is hollow?

This morning I received an email from a young man who paid me to measure his starting point measurements. He could be speaking for you. I need to take better care to my physical body. Like you said, drinking more water is the first step. I don’t take care of my body, and I can’t […]

The fake world you live in…

Thanksgiving is an excellent opportunity for me to see it… you won’t see it… it is too close to you, and it would be too harsh for you to see it.

But I am going to write as if I cared whether you get it or not… that is how I do my thinking. Writing or talking it out…

I just hung up the phone on a student who called me to wish me a happy thanksgiving and say thank you.

I hesitated if I should pick up the phone, and hesitated if I should talk to him.

Why? Because unless you are in trouble and need me, calling me, out of the blue, shows that you consider me either the same level as you, or below you.

And if you d

actions-over-wordsThe hardest pull to resist is the pull of your “how” nature. Or what type of activity do you rush into… headfirst… That activity can be four kinds… four conative types, four types of conative actions… reading, planning, action, and execution.

Scientific name for your “how” is Conation. It is innate, and it is NOT changeable.

Regardless… I have been looking at taming my own… I find that it is not tamable. It is what it is.

But I have come to suspect that what you do after you do what your Conation makes you do is when the magic happens.

You see, all people belong to three types. People who make things happen, people who watch things happen, and people who wonder what happened. But

Updated: A Time To Give Thanks. But To Who? For What? Mundane Or Significant? Habit And Duty Or Privilege?

Thanksgiving_bountyI wrote this article five years ago. Sometimes the way to get ahead is to go back five years and start from there.

Recently the readership of this blog has changed, not to my liking. I’d like to return to how it was five years ago, when people with sincere desire to change visited, and asked for help.

OK, here is the old article… hopefully all typos are corrected.

Thanksgiving: a time to give thanks. But to who? For What? Mundane or Significant? Habit and Duty or Privilege?

In searching what I am really thankful for, I went through all the things I could be thankful for.

The ai

Thanksgiving… if you want to be honest, it is just a meal.

thanksgiving-dinnerWhy would I say something sacra-religious like this?

Because saying what you are grateful only includes what you like.

What about the 99% of your life, of people, of things, that you don’t like, or just barely tolerate?

Can you say: I am grateful for that?

When it is a dark day: can you be grateful for that? When your friend is pushing your buttons: can you be grateful for that? When you feel bad, tired, nauseated, can you be grateful for that?

Yeah, I know, you can say you are, but are you?

You are lying.

Because you only see value where you see value, not everywhere.

Getting really smart is scary

flowers for algernoon, a tale of getting smartOne thing the book Flowers for Algernon did not prepare me for is how scary it is to get too smart too quickly.

I have been experimenting with different capacities… what they do, what behavior, what insight they possible.

One of these capacities increased my capacity (it had been turned on, but not ful

Is responsibility a capacity? A case study

the cream issue: responsibility and generosityMessage to my friend: please don’t be offended. This was too good a story, too educational, to pass by. I didn’t mean to offend you, or invalidate your effort.

Is responsibility a capacity? If it isn’t, it should be… but it isn’t.

Responsibility, the behavior, has lots of other capacities that need to be lit up for it to work.

I am observing an unfolding dramatic story: a storm in a teacup.
