One of the most counter-cultural distinctions that came from Buckminster Fuller is the trim tab, or small actions that turns big ships.

Most people are completely out of alignment with their soul’s purpose.

They are even out of alignment with their own desires. They are facing the opposite direction.

Now, although this is terrifying, what is even more terrifying is that these same people want to stay the same way, facing the same direction, away from where they’d like to be, but want to feel differently.

You can’t.

Why? Because humans are cursed with a soul, human’s are cursed with a design that is like having a bunch of cats calling the next action in your life. They are going to pull you in all different directions.

A low vibration human, which is most of humanity, sees themselves as their mind (thoughts)… The mind is probably the least suitable aspect of them to guide them to a successful, fulfilling life that is in alignment with Life.

So what are the aspects of a human?

The mind, we all know that, the soul, the ego, the body, the will, the attention, the feelings and emotions, the hidden aspect of the mind, and the Witness, or Consciousness.

Each of these aspects has different priorities and different things that they want.

As with any team, team of horses, team of workers, if you want to avoid anarchy, you need to choose a strong leader with a vision. A leader that has the wisdom to suggest actions that fulfill the disparate desires and needs of every member of the team, at least most of the time.

  • The mind is past based, no vision, so it’s not suitable to lead. It is seconds behind the current moment… always late, always ineffective.
  • The body is only interested in growing and keeping itself well, it’s the animal part of a human.
  • The ego is playing for keeps, position, for fight… when the ego leads there is no peace.
  • The will and the attention are clearly tools… tools don’t lead.
  • The two remaining aspects, the Soul and the Witness. The Soul is very clear about the direction a human needs to take to evolve. And the Witness is excellent at discerning, but needs to be invited… not a good start for a leader.

So the only aspect of a human that is suitable for leadership of the whole is the Soul.

The Soul is interested in the strait and narrow, the soul is interested in this particular human to grow, expand, reach for the sky, without interfering with others’ right to do the same.

The Soul is, arguably, the aspect that is the perfect leader.

Now, although the soul is willing to give the ego and the body its due, it is not willing to indulge them, or give them the rudder to direct the ship.

How does the Soul lead?

The Soul has a long term vision, and it also has a short term vision.

For the purposes of this article we’ll be looking at the short term vision: the actions needed to turn you around to face the direction you are supposed to be going. Toward growth and freedom to move.

The Soul employs the small actions methodology: trim tabbing.

Each little action is a small miracle worth celebrating, because lots of little actions will painlessly turn your ship around.

Actions. Not thoughts, not conversations, not dreams, not experiences. Actions. [note]Committed speaking is action! Chattering isn’t.[/note] Actions that YOU take. Not what happens to you, what others do to you. What you do. The more consciously the more it’s a miracle.

Now, let me take a little detour here: WARNING! If you have energetic attachments, cords, broken off soul fragments still hanging from you, you won’t be able to turn your ship around. They will act as small anchors, countering your efforts to right your ship. And finally, if your dominant belief about yourself and about life is strong, you’ll do some dance, but you are anchored solidly to the wrong direction: you cannot move your ship.

In the beginning of your turning your ship around, you’ll notice accidental actions, and I ask you to celebrate them. Why? So you get it imprinted: this was a successful action. Eventually you’ll gain the knowledge to generate your actions.

Want to know how I raised my vibration to above 900? Exactly this way.

The first leg took me 22 years. Going from total victim to where a lot of you are: 175… where I started to have the capacity to own my own c.r.a.p.

The second leg took me 3 years. I got myself to 296.

The current leg has been going on for 5 years now, and I am still in a flux… the needle is moving up and down between 900 and 970, depending on the harshness of life and how I take it.

Here is an article about trim tabbing. You’ll love it.

The Power of Trim Tabs – How Small Changes Create Big Results

by Linda Gabriel
Buckminster Fuller, one of the great geniuses of the 20th century, loved the metaphor of “trim tabs” for understanding how to leverage personal power. Famous for inventing the geodesic dome and coining the word “synergy,” Fuller felt he’d wasted the first part of his life. He would often go on drinking binges, neglected his family, and hadn’t achieved much. Then when he was 32, his only daughter died. Blaming himself for not being home when the child passed away, he fell into a severe depression. The story goes that soon afterward Fuller went alone into the ocean, wading further and further from shore, contemplating suicide. In that moment of desperation the thought occurred that he hadn’t really given his life a chance. Who was he to waste a life? Was life really was worth living? Fuller decided the only way to answer that question would be to turn his life into a sort of experiment. From that moment on he resolved to spend all his energy finding out what a single human life could achieve. It turned out to be quite a lot.

In a 1972 interview Bucky explained the power of trim tabs:

“Something hit me very hard once, thinking about what one little man could do. Think of the Queen Mary — the whole ship goes by and then comes the rudder. And there’s a tiny thing at the edge of the rudder called a trim tab. It’s a miniature rudder. Just moving the little trim tab builds a low pressure that pulls the rudder around. Takes almost no effort at all. So I said that the little individual can be a trim tab. Society thinks it’s going right by you, that it’s left you altogether. But if you’re doing dynamic things mentally, the fact is that you can just put your foot out like that and the whole big ship of state is going to go. So I said, call me Trim Tab.”

The first time I read this I was astonished at the elegant simplicity of the idea of using a trim tab. But while Bucky Fuller was speaking about the power of one person to affect society, I began to wonder about the power of the trim tab metaphor in a more personal way. Instead of trying to change “society” what about just changing myself? What trim tabs could I find to create small shifts in awareness or behavior that might leverage a much larger effect in my life?

Micro-Gratitude is certainly a trim tab. Another powerful trim tab we have is language. Our everyday way of speaking has so much power to shape the quality of our lives with very little effort. The words you choose can affect your level of self-confidence, your mood, and even your perception of the world. I offered some suggestions about the power of language in Three Words That Can Change Your Life.

Here are a couple more ideas:

Think of something you’ve been procrastinating about doing. I suggest starting with something small like, “I have to organize my desk,” or “I have to go to the dentist.” Notice how you feel when you say or even think the phrase, “I have to…”

Now think about something you enjoy doing. Again pick something small. When it comes to things we like to do, we usually say something like, “I get to go to the movies this afternoon,” or “I get to have some time to myself this weekend.” Notice how you feel when you say or think the phrase, “I get to…” Feels good, right?

Here’s where it gets fun. Notice what happens when you start changing your “have to’s” to “get to’s.” Try it see if it reduces your resistance. You may be surprised to find a dramatic change for the better. Don’t worry if at first you feel sarcastic or develop an urge to giggle. “I get to do the dishes!” “I get to walk the dog.” “I get to pick up the kids at school.” “I get to go to work.” “I get to go run some errands – anyone want to join in the fun?”

If you want to “kick it up a notch” take a moment to really let the “get to” feeling sink in. With the new label your subconscious will actually begin to file things differently so you will tend to experience less resistance. And with less resistance, it becomes easier to realize that you truly are lucky to “get to” do almost anything in life, even those things that you’ve been resisting.

It’s really very simple.
